All year-round, I go to church nearly every weekend. There’s barely a time where I miss mass. Even when I used to fly down to Florida for the summer, my family and I always tried to go to church at least once on the weekend. With Christmas around the corner, I also will be going to church for the Christmas mass. What I don’t understand around this time of the year is the amount of people that I don’t normally see at church that show up JUST for the holidays.
The main reason that everyone goes to church at all is because deep down, they’re religious at heart. Unless you’re being forced to go to church, in your mind you know that you should at least attend one weekly mass. If you’re able to go out of your way to dress up and come to church for the holidays, then you’re more than capable of being able to come to church at least once a week. That’s all God asks for, just one hour of your time and you can have the rest of the time all week to yourself.
Sometimes though, it’s not as cut-and-dry. Less than 20% of Americans regularly attend church according to churchleaders.com. There are different factors that play into why some people come to church only around times like this around the year. Some reasons being are that they’re only able to around the holidays meaning, maybe this person simply has no time to or simply can’t because of something involving/concerning family, work, etc. Things like this could be what’s keeping people from coming to church regularly around the year. “You can’t judge a book by it’s cover.”
In my opinion, I have no say and/or have no way of having people come to church regularly like I do. I can say though, that even though these people only come around the holidays or even rarely after the holidays: at least they’re trying and making the effort to come to church to such an important mass. To those of you only attending mass on holidays, see you on Easter Sunday.
